Proving AI ROI in the pharmacy: what St. Luke's and MetroHealth got right
When pharmacy leaders ask whether clinical AI pays for itself, two health systems now have the receipts. In a Becker's Healthcare analysis, St. Luke's Health System and MetroHealth shared what changed after bringing Latent into their prior authorization and medication access work.
St. Luke's Health System: from cost center to growth engine
St. Luke's avoided roughly $300K in annualized labor cost and saw close to a multi-million dollar net-new revenue impact by routing more specialty fills back to its own pharmacies. Its prior authorization queue fell from 2,400 to 600 in five months, a 72% efficiency gain. NPS rose 6 points and first-pass approval rose 7 points.
MetroHealth: access at scale
MetroHealth secured $50M in copay assistance for its patients and lifted its specialty fill capture rate above 85%. Turnaround on prior authorizations moved from one to two months down to about two weeks, submission time dropped from 25 to 30 minutes to under 4, and the system reported zero denials from missing or incorrect information.
The through-line across both: the return shows up in the places finance already measures. Labor avoided. Revenue captured. Patients started on therapy faster.
